NeighborWorks Alaska is dedicated to improving the quality of life for families and individuals by preserving homes, creating new housing opportunities and strengthening neighborhoods. One recent success is the revitalization of the Spenard community. NeighborWorks Alaska worked with the government, residents and business owners in the neighborhood to upgrade the community. Since 1979, Food Bank of Alaska works with food industry partners to salvage food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. It also collects food donated by community members and administers government food programs. Food Bank of Alaska distributes millions of meals statewide to 300 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and children’s programs feeding their hungry neighbors. It is a member of Feeding America, the country’s largest anti-hunger organization, which connects Food Bank of Alaska with sources of food to purchase at low prices, holds it accountable for food safety and financial best practices, and provides program and advocacy support.Our team contributes time and resources to help their efforts. Since 1988, Covenant House Alaska has served thousands of homeless, at-risk, and trafficked youth in Alaska. Its sole purpose is to be available to help youth in crisis 24/7, 365 days a year. Through its three main programs, Emergency Shelter, Street Outreach and Transitional Living, and associated housing and health care services, youth enrichment program, pastoral ministry and employment/education assistance, it meets the basic needs of youth in crisis, while also providing them with the support to become healthy, self-sufficient, contributing members of the community.We’re honored to be involved and proud of their progress: https://ak.covenanthouse.org/

This annual event raises money and awareness of breast cancer and women’s health, and to showcase the talents of Alaska’s women athletes. Now one of the most visible running events in the state, the Run is also one of the largest all-women runs in the country. Since 1993, $4 million in cash and donated mammograms has been generated by the event – all of which has been distributed to organizations associated with breast cancer.
